Sea pinks and samphire

Our principal stocks this year are sea pinks (Armeria maritima), also known as thrift, and marsh samphire (Salicornia europea), available in a variety of container sizes.

Please contact us at the email address below for details of all the plants we have in stock.

Sea pinks are as tough as they are beautiful, thriving in salty, windy, coastal conditions. They are a perfect complement to both modern and traditional planting schemes and are very low-maintenance. They can often be seen growing wild in abundance on clifftops.

Go to any top seafood restaurant and you will find samphire being served as an accompaniment to fish. We provide this delicious vegetable, also known as sea beans or sea asparagus, in pots, so you can serve it at peak freshness. Perfect for impressing dinner party guests. Celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall favours adding it to a pan of boiling, salted water for three to four minutes and then tossing in butter, olive oil, salt and pepper. You can also steam it, if you prefer.
